Rising to the height of a large dog the solmundis slinks through marshes and other wetlands hunting for prey. This amphibian, like its smaller salamander cousins, needs wet environs to survive and because of its large size often must rest in shallow ponds as an ambush predator. When spotting a nearby fish or unsuspecting bird its spear-like tongue will lash out at a full dozen feet to impale and quickly retract its prize into its awaiting needle toothed maw.
